Gyroflex Solid State Steering Tool (GS3)
After further development of the Gyroflex™ Solid State line of GTL wellbore surveying technology, GTL has introduced the Gyroflex Steering Tool (GS3). The GS3 is a high accuracy solid state (MEMS) northseeking gyro survey tool, which can provide both high accuracy all angle continuous surveys, as well as steering services. The GS3 can remain seated while drilling out of casing, setting a whipstock, motor orientations or other applications where MWD magnetic sensor data is compromised. Combining the flexibility of the Gyroflex product range with the increased ruggedness of solid state sensors. The technology has no moving parts and provides further advances in “gyro-flexibility”.
System
The system consists of an GS3™ instrument which is a fully integrated instrument capable of being run in real time or memory mode. The tool can run on either an electric wireline connected to a surface power supply and PC or with the addition of an Alkaline battery pack, run on slick / braided line or in free fall drop mode. The GS3™ also includes a depth monitoring system for increased survey resolution. Under normal circumstances, the GS3 tool would be run in a 1.75” pressure case / thermal shield to maintain temperature stability.
GST Services Summary:
-
High speed, high accuracy all angle northfinding continuous multi-shot
-
Gyro whipstock and motor orientation
-
Seated gyro steering services
-
Drop gyro (with inrun/outrun capability)
-
Memory gyro on slickline
-
Advanced add-on sensors including gamma and CCL
GST Advantages:
-
High speed, high accuracy all angle continuous survey capability
-
All attitude measurement capability
-
One flexible system: multi-shot, steering and drop/memory surveys are conducted using the same probe meaning greater flexibility, availability and reliability
-
On-board advanced data processing algorithms correct for drift in real time; all raw data saved in downhole memory for post processing optimal error estimation
-
Both inrun and outrun are measured with each survey: because GS3 is a truly continuous system, this can be achieved without any productivity sacrifice providing effective quality control immediately after every survey
-
Highly reliable and tough: the GS3 has been designed to withstand both high temperatures and high levels of shock with the use of advanced proprietary solid state sensors
